Services will be held, Saturday, June 26,2010 at 10:00am, at St. Stephen's of the Valley Lutheran Church 1737 East Ave R, Palmdale, CA 93550. All that knew and loved Jon Berg are welcomed by his survived family parents Darcy and Scott Hedstorm, Clinton Berg and brothers Jared Berg and Zack Hedstorm. Jon's adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors ultimately led to his death on Friday, June 18,2010 in Iowa. Berg who was active in extreme risk sporting activities initially jumped into the Maquoketa River looking for a thrill with the belief he would survive and did not surface for over 2 hours. AH authorities, friends and family believe that Jon was just looking for another thrill and died doing what he loved!!! Jon Berg, a locally recognized football and track and field Player/Coach for Crescenta Valley High and Burbank High School has passed away at the young age of 34 years old. The North Dakota native moved to La Crescenta in 1986 were Jon immediately became a standout on local football fields. Jon Berg started playing football for the Glendale Bears and continued tormenting opposing offenses when #35, a three year varsity starter, was the staple of Crescenta Valley's 1992 football team that advanced to the semi-finals after beating powerhouse Hart High. Jon Berg of Crescenta Valley was a Los Angeles Times AH-Glendale selection defensive linemen and earned Pacific league honors three years in a row. Although the 5 foot 8, 165 pound Berg was among the smallest linemen in Division II, his contributions to the Falcons' success were immeasurable as he chased down quarterbacks for the Falcons defensive. Jon, a standout track and field member, also holds Crescenta Valley's pole vault records in track and field by jumping over 14' 6" as a junior. After Jon Berg graduated from CV in 1993, he soon returned to his alma mater where he coached football and track and field for the Falcons for numerous years. Jon, a former Burbank Unified School District employee, then took his knowledge and love of sports to Burbank High School where continued coaching football and track and field for the Bulldogs.
