I met Harry while I was employed at SIGMA Eyehealth Centers in Anamosa. He was truly a ‘gentleman’. Soft spoken, so very kind and courteous. Any time he stopped by the office, he was a true shining light. I was fortunate to have crossed paths with him. My thoughts to all family and friends of this very special man.

I was lucky enough to have Uncle Harry as my godfather. My dad, Leo, died a few years before I was married, so Harry stepped in to walk me down the aisle. As I was married in a small country church, the wedding party had to walk outside to get to the entry way of the church to go down the aisle. Just as we stepped outside, it started to rain. From out of nowhere, Harry reached into his suit coat pocket, whipped out an umbrella, and had me covered in a second. It happened so fast I almost didn't see it happen. And, of course, all done with a smile and a chuckle, and in an understated manner. Like who doesn't have an umbrella smoothly hidden inside their well fitting suit. Many hugs and prayers and blessings to Harry's family - especially this weekend. We will be with you in spirit - wish it could be more.

I worked with Harry for several years. I found Harry to be a really unique individual. There didn’t seem to be any task, any challenge, or any situation that Harry would shy away from. He approached everything with great optimism, wit, and a “can do” expression on his face (which was usually a sly smile). I found Harry had a great outlook on life and a love for his family. At state conventions, seminars, or other funeral activities, Harry was always bouncing around with a great smile on his face. I know that I learned many technics and other funeral related knowledge from my time spent with Harry. My condolences go out to all his family. You have lost a great figure in your lives, but one who left many great memories.

As a young nephew of the McBride boys I recall it was always a treat to ride on the back of Leo's tractor or to ride in the back seat of Fr. Jim's cool cars. I hope Harry understood why I never wanted to ride in the back of his car. Surely, the dawn of global warming was in the mid-1950's when Harry's warm heart was stationed near the North Pole. The definition of a gentleman and always could be counted on for a cool gadget and a great story. Rest in Peace Uncle Harry, your memories will bring a smile to many for years to come. God's Blessing to all the family.

Harry was a true funeral service professional.
I began my career in FS with Harry in WDM. He always shared his considerable knowledge and wisdom with the “new” directors, giving us the confidence to help others.
Quick with a funny story or comment he kept us all laughing.
I always looked forward to catching up with Harry at convention. Blessings to all of his family, Harry God Bless you!

Mike and Julie. I’m so sorry to hear about your father. I have known Harry since his days working in Burlington and have always considered him a friend. Harry was always ‘first class’! He was a professional and I truly believed he loved funeral service by helping others during their time of need. Our profession was blessed to have had him representing funeral service for many years. I will always remember him fondly and smile when I think of his ‘traveling prep room’ in the trunk of his car! Rest In Peace Harry - you deserve it!!!
