Obituary of Bernice Cecelia Gassmann

Bernice C. Gassmann, 86, of Cascade, Iowa died Monday, June 11, 2012, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, Iowa. Bernice was born on October 24, 1925 in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Thole) Loesche. She married Harold M. Gassmann on August 12, 1946, in Petersburg, Iowa. Together they farmed near Edgewood, IA and later went into the restaurant business for 35 years. She was an avid Cubs fan. Survivors include her 5 children: Sharon (Dave) Trumm of Viola, IA, Dave Gassmann of Monticello, IA, Wayne (Mary) Gassmann of Cascade, IA, Alan Gassmann of Anamosa, IA, Pam (Steve) Lynch of Cascade, IA, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, siblings: Lawrence Loesche of Arizona, Sylvester "Red" (Alma) Loesche of Dyersville, Delores Lammers of Dyersville and sisters-in-law, Rita Gassmann of Dyersville and Bernice "Bernie" Gassmann of Manchester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold in 2009, one grandson, Jared Gassmann, a granddaughter, Morgan Gassmann, siblings, Andy (Melanie) Loesche, Laurine (Clarence) Kruse, brothers and sisters-in-law: Maxine Loesche, Paul Lammers, Francis, Aloysius, Cyril, Cletus, Arnold and Clarence Gassmann, Mathilda Ries, Germaine Heying, Cecelia Hennen and Leora Seymour. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Dennis Quint.
