Obituary of Marilyn Janee Wilbricht

Marilyn J. Wilbricht, 67, of Monticello, Iowa died Monday, September 13, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family. She fought a quick, courageous battle with plasma cell leukemia. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. and a Parrish Scripture Service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa. Nephew Father Stephen Wilbricht and Deacon David Wilbricht will officiate the services. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, Iowa with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Marilyn Janee was born on May 15, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Lester N. and Florence A. (Lange) Schmit. She married Gerald Wilbricht on October 3, 1964 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Marilyn shall always be remembered for her kindness, her determination, and her love for so many friends and family on whose lives she had a profound influence. Survivors include her husband, Gerald, son, Christopher (Kristen McCaustland) Wilbricht of Belleville, WI; daughter, Lisa (Douglas) Wink of Urbandale, IA; son, Patrick (Kelly Hite) Wilbricht of San Antonio, TX; 6 grandchildren: Nicholas, Tyler, and Abigail Wilbricht of Belleville, WI; Ashley and Mitchell Wink of Urbandale, IA; and Faye Wilbricht of San Antonio, TX; sister Dianne (James) Winders and brother, Danny (Kathy) Schmit of Dubuque, IA. Marilyn was preceded in death by parents. Marilyn completed her nurse's training at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque in 1964. She worked as a Registered Nurse for Mercy Hospital in Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, and as an elementary school nurse for nearly 30 years at Carpenter Elementary and the Monticello Middle School. She took great pride in helping so many youth and adults in the Monticello area, volunteering her time for many blood drives, area health screenings, and wellness clinics. In 1992, Marilyn also earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. Marilyn was an avid gardener. Her homes in Monticello were both surrounded with lovely gardens, waterfalls, and beautiful blooms. She was also an excellent cook and very much enjoyed entertaining both friends and family over the years. Marilyn was also a gifted quilter, producing many beautiful quilts for her family. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family and spending time watching her grandchildren's many extracurricular activities over the past two decades.
