Clarence T. Schieltz, 94, of Guttenberg and formerly of Luxemburg died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. and a V.F.W. Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call Thursday morning after 9:30 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Raymond Burkle will officiate with Rev. John Ptacek concelebrating. Military honors will be accorded by Edward W. Lake V.F.W. Post 7736. Clarence was born January 28, 1918, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Henkels) Schieltz. He worked as an independent skilled carpenter for many years in and around Luxemburg. Clarence was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Army from 1942 - 1945. He earned two Bronze Stars for "distinguishing himself by meritorious service… in France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany, …he performed his duties in a highly commendable and exemplary manner… as a medical man (surgical technician)." Overall, Clarence served in ten different European countries. He was a member of the Edward W. Lake V.F.W. Post 7736 in New Vienna. Clarence was a great lover of nature, gathering mushrooms and ginseng, and generally enjoying the wildlife. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings: Cy (Teresa) and Vincent (Armella) Schieltz, Armella (Alphonse) Clemen, Valeria (Leonard) Oberbroeckling, Germaine Billington and Mildred (Reynold) Steffen.
