Dorothy was born on February 21, 1922, in Bankston, Iowa, the daughter of Augusta and Charlotte "Lottie" (Joynt) Heisler. She married Arthur F. Phillips on April 21, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa. Together they farmed in the New Vienna area until 1974, when they moved to town. She was a member of the Edward W. Lake V.F.W. Post 7736 Auxiliary and she worked at the V.F.W. Canteen. Dorothy loved to quilt, having made many quilts for family and friends. She also loved to go fishing and on Sunday drives with Art, play cards and spend time with family and friends. Survivors include her children: Mary Schulte of Dubuque, IA, Janet Phillips of Overland Park, KS and Diann Phillips of Dubuque, IA, Larry (Jan) Phillips of Peosta, IA, and Loras (Melanie) Phillips of Dyersville, IA, 7 grandchildren: Sandy and Paula Schulte, Randy and Ryan Phillips, Jason (Jill) Phillips, Brandi (Chris) Pasker, and Robbie (special friend, Emily Goedken) Phillips, 6 great grandchildren: Caleb, Carter, Cole and Hannah Phillips, Evan and Tessa Pasker. Brothers-and sisters-in-law: Lyle (Peggy) Phillips of Kansas City, KS, Melvin Bergman and Vera Knudson, both of Seneca, KS, Elda Mae (Alvitus) Haverkamp of Wetmore, Kansas, and Margaret Heisler of Bankston, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art in 2003, great granddaughter, Taylor Marie Schulte, son-in-law, Robert J. Schulte, a brother, John Heisler, sisters: Frances Phillips and Colletta Guinta, and several brothers-and-sisters-in-law from the Phillips family. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials are preferred to Hospice of Dubuque and the American Cancer Society. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Drs. Christian Schultheis, Osamah Khatib and their staff of Medical Associates, and the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center for the outstanding care and compassion they gave to our mother.
