Obituary of Urban John Jaeger

Urban was born on April 1, 1923, in Dyersville, Iowa the son of Sylverius and Angela (Kramer) Jaeger. He helped on the family farm as a child and served in Europe during WWII from 1944 - 1946. He married Irene Petsche on August 23, 1947, in Guttenberg, Iowa. Urban was an independent trucker until 1960, and then was a self employed construction worker. Urban and Irene began farming in 1965, northeast of Hopkinton. Farming was an occupation he enjoyed until his accident nearly two weeks ago. Urban designed and built the first end loader in the area which he used to dig many basements, inclcuding the basement of St. Francis Xavier Basilica. Survivors include his wife, Irene, children: Russell (Pat) Jaeger and Sue (Jim) Guthrie both of Hopkinton, IA, and Eldon (Barb) Jaeger of Worthington, IA, 7 grandchildren: Angela, David, Sharon, and J. Russel, Guthrie, Rodney, Kathy and Brenda Jaeger; 12 great grandchildren, 6 siblings: Joan Helle of Dubuque, IA, Norma (Laverne) Petsche of Dyersville, Della Rose Downey of Marietta, GA, Eileen Appel of Houston, TX, William (Mary Ann) Jaeger of Manchester, IA, John (Ruth) Jaeger of Manchester, IA; 4 half siblings: Leo (Diane) Jaeger of Kenton, OH, Leroy Jaeger of Earlville, IA, Loras (Mikki) Jaeger of Bettendorf, IA, Marilyn (Pat) Werner of Dyersville; a sister-in-law, Bernice Blunk of Garnavillo, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother, Coletta Pottebaum Jaeger, 2 siblings in infancy: Jeanne Ann & Eldon Jaeger. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 6 p.m and an Altar Society Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 9:00 a.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 18, 2010, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Worthington, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Gross. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137.
