Obituary of Joyce Clara Borgerding

Joyce was born on August 4, 1944, daughter of Lawrence and Laurine (Deutmeyer) Krapfl. After high school she entered Mt. St. Francis Convent, and left almost 2 years later. On Nov.20, 1965, she married Irvin Borgerding at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, IA. Together they farmed for 26 years at Balltown, Worthington, and New Vienna, and then moved to Dyersville. She formerly belonged to the St. Boniface Adult Guitar Group, the Dubuque Quilt Guild, the Bear Creek Wood Carvers Club, and provided music for 30 years at Oakcrest Nursing Home. Joyce enjoyed playing her guitar and piano, putting puzzles together, wood carving, playing cards, walking, canning, and she won many awards for her quilting projects. She loved it when her children and grandchildren came home to visit. She worked 17 ½ years in the fast food industry at Hardees and Dairy Queen. Surviving are her husband, Irvin, of Dyersville and 5 children, Susan (Gary) Bries of Jackson WI, Rose (Todd) Shafer of Ankeny, Robert of Havelock NC, Ann (Randy) Orrison of Lawton OK, and Paul (Laura) of Dubuque; 8 grandchildren; brothers: Gene (Betty) Krapfl and David (LuAnn) Krapfl, sisters, Alice Langel, Doris (Mel) Langel, Donna (Jim) Kluesner, Inez (Bernie) Kluesner, and Marian Hermsen, brothers-in-law: Richard (Marilyn), and Loras (Jean) Borgerding and sisters-in-law: Helen Cigrand, Mary Jane Johnson, Carol (Tom) Beringer, and Wilma Jesenovec. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Francis Langel, father and mother-in-law, Ben and Mary Borgerding, sister-and-brothers-in-law: Donna Borgerding and Richard Smith, David Johnson and Ernest Jesenovec. Friends may call from 2 - 8 PM, Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 5:30 PM. Friends may continue to call after 8:30 a.m. Monday at Kramer Funeral Home. Services will be 10 AM, Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville. Memorials are preferred and may be given to Hospice of Dubuque. A special Thank You goes to all the Hospice workers, especially Edna.
