Julius N. Steffen, 83 of Luxemburg, Iowa died Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg, Iowa after a brief struggle with cancer. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 8, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Marvin Bries. Julius was born on November 25, 1926, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of John and Catherine (Wolter) Steffen. He married Verna Mae Nurre on October 21, 1947, in Petersburg, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised their family in the Luxemburg area. Julius operated Rolling Hardware Sales and worked at A & D Ag. & Feed Store until retirement. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, wintering in Texas, driving tractors on the family century farm and especially spending time with all his family. Survivors include his wife, Verna Mae, 6 children: Stanley (Linda) and Sam (Pam) both of Luxemburg, Wayne (Debbie) of Rickardsville, IA, Terry (Kathy) of Holy Cross, Laura (Loren) Harbaugh of Manchester, IA, Lois (Denny) Garin of Guttenberg, a daughter-in-law: Bonnie Steffen of Luxemburg, 26 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren with 4 more on the way, 4 step great grandchildren, siblings: Dave (Arlene) Steffen of Luxemburg, Bernice Decker of Seminole, FL, brothers and sisters-in-law: Joe (Helen) Nurre of Manchester, Rosemarie Nurre of Cedar Rapids, Charlie Nurre of Strawberry Point, Rosemary (Marvin) Nickol of Dyersville, Ken (Dottie) Nurre of Rockford, IL, and Gerald (Rita) Nurre of Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: Ronald in 2007, and Joseph at birth, 2 sisters: Tharsilla (Joe) Gerdemann and Lorraine (Frank) Lentz, 3 brothers: Reynold (Mildred) Steffen, Leonard (Marie) Steffen, Wilfred (Florence) Steffen and in laws: Carl Decker, Alfred Nurre, John Steger and Alice Nurre. The family would like to thank the angels at the Guttenberg Care Center, the Guttenberg Hospital and Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
