MONTICELLO, IOWA Ambrose "Andy" N. Strittmatter, 91, of Monticello died Saturday evening, November 6, 2010, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends may call from 2:00 - 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish scripture service will be held at 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Keith Birch. Surviving are his two daughters, Susan (Eric) Sandeen of Laramie, WY, Ellen Strittmatter of Monticello, and a son, Nick (Anne) Strittmatter, of Monticello; four grandchildren: Alexander of Kabul, Afghanistan, David of Boca Raton, FL, Lucas of Bose, China and Katherine of Rome, Italy. Andy was born on September 6, 1919, in Casey, Iowa, the son of Leonard N. and Barbara (Ludwig) Strittmatter. Later in Des Moines, he attended All Saints School. During high school he was a golf caddy and worked at a drug store. After completing the Civilian Pilot Training course in 1937, he received his pilot's license. Andy graduated from Dowling Jr. College and earned his law degree from Drake University in 1942. Andy was a FBI agent for ten years serving in Augusta, Savannah, Buffalo, Detroit, Omaha, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. On May 19, 1947, he married Lillian Locher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. He practiced law in Monticello for 52 years retiring at age 85. He was the Monticello City Attorney for 20 years. Andy was a member of Rotary Club and enjoyed playing bridge, golf and discussing political and economic issues. He and Lillian passed on their love of travel to their children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by wife Lillian, and brother Bernard and two sisters, Evangeline Stein and Marcie Engel.
