Obituary of Janice Joyce Samuelson

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Jewell United Church of Christ, with her pastor for the last several years, Reverend Kurt W. Pasko of the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Manchester, officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville and Friday, January 14, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell, Iowa. Janice Joyce Buckels Samuelson, daughter of Lloyd and Olava Hia Buckels was born July 24, 1935 on a farm near Jewell. She received her education in Jewell schools graduating in 1953. She graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in 1957 with a degree in education. Upon graduating, she taught kindergarten in the Des Moines and Webster City school systems. On June 14, 1959 she married Wayne L. Samuelson of rural Stanhope at the Federal United Church of Christ in Jewell. Janice taught in the elementary schools of the South Hamilton Community School District from 1969 through 1994. Janice is survived by her husband, Wayne; children Brooke (Ellen) Samuelson of Fort Myers, FL, Janett (Reed) Smith of Coppell, TX, Layne (Trish) Samuelson of Cedar Rapids, IA and DeLoss Samuelson of Dyersville, IA; grandchildren Lauren and Logan Samuelson, Linden and Olivia Smith, Adam and Cody (Amy) Samuelson; great-grandchildren Madilyn and Sylas Samuelson; brother James Buckels of Vista, CA; sisters Colleen (Jay) Ossman of Jefferson City, MO, Judy (Rodney) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, IA; sister-in-law Faye Buckels of Webster City, IA and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Olava Buckels, brother Lloyd Buckels, Jr. and twin sister Janett Joan Buckels. She was member of the Jewell United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Jewell United Church of Christ, the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Manchester or the Gideons International.
