I was saddened to hear of Larry’s passing this week. We met in August 1968 as freshmen at Loras and were able to catch up at our 45th reunion in 2017. Larry’s smile was infectious and the jokes....what can I say....he will truly leave our class with a void....you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Ries Family, Extending to each of you our sincere sympathy upon learning of the sudden and tragic death of your Dad, Brother, and friend, Larry Ries. Directing my concern and prayers not only for the entire family but for Doris and Father Carl, whom I know so well from our parish in Dyersville. It is so difficult to carry crosses this heavy in our lives, but our faith sees us through so we can bask in the memories our loved ones leave behind. I am so surprised and so sorry to hear of Larry's death. I did not know Larry well but loved the whole Ries family. You are a close and loving family. I admired Art and Louise(classy lady). Since Mel's death in '76', the Goebel family has always been special to me and my children. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Larry and the New Vienna group were great guys to be around during our 2 years at Beckman HS. No one could tell a joke like Larry, and laugh the hardest after telling it! I was fortunate to spend time with him during our 50th class reunion last September. I am deeply saddened and my sympathy goes out to the Ries Family.

I was friends with Larry during our Clarke/Loras days and afterwards our single days in Dubuque. My brother, Tom Knapp, informed me of Larry's passing yesterday and the last two days I have had Larry's big smile and robust laughter on my mind. Larry was funny, smart, handsome and the life of the party. I know he will be missed by his family and friends. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
