I met Del several years ago while we were working next to his adjoining property in Guttenberg,Iowa. I've always been interested in history so I asked Del if he had been in the service. Del hesitated for a moment and then proceeded to tell me of his time in the Pacific. It didn't take long for me to realize that after so long; to bring a man of 88 years old to tears it must have been terrible. I thanked him for his service and although I never saw Dell again, his story stuck with me and will stay with me the rest of my life.
