Irene J. Vorwald, 90, of Dyersville, Iowa died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where an Altar & Rosary Society Rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm and a parish scripture service will be held at 4:30 pm Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, January 21, 2011, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. John O'Connor with Rev. Al Vorwald concelebrating. Irene was born on January 12, 1921, in New Vienna, the daughter of Clem and Magdalene (Schroeder) Fangmann. She married Alfred "Ted" Vorwald on August 24, 1943, in New Vienna. Together they farmed near New Vienna where Irene resided until she could no longer be alone. Then she joined her twin sister at Oak Crest Manor. She enjoyed raising her family on the farm. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlights of her life. She loved to cook for people and make them feel welcome. She was a member and past president of St. Boniface Altar and Rosary Society. Survivors include her children: Fred (Carol) and Carl (Debbie) Vorwald both of New Vienna, Jan Lex and Arlene Vorwald both of Dubuque, Jean Driscoll of Mechanicsville, IA, Donna (Jeff) Jacque of Dyersville, Marian (John) Schmidt of Holy Cross, a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Vorwald of Dyersville; 25 grandchildren, 39 (soon to be 41) great grandchildren; her twin sister, Armella Schroeder, and a sister-in-law, Lois Fangmann of Manchester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband "Ted" in 1991, one son, Jim in 1978; 2 sons-in-law, George Driscoll and Jim Lex; a grandson, Jeff Vorwald; siblings: Regina Gaul, Clara Ruden, Marie Schneider, Julia Schlichte, Leander, Edwin, Elmer, Leonard and Lawrence Fangmann. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of Oak Crest Manor toward the purchase of a lift in Irene's name. The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Crest Manor (especially her "Guardian Angel") and to Hospice of Dubuque, for their loving care of Mom.
