Obituary of Richard Charles Potter
DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Richard C. Potter, 91, of Dyersville passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Luther Manor in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm Monday, November 5, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where American Legion Post 137 will hold a service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the United Methodist Church in Epworth from 9:30 – 10:15 prior to funeral services.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Epworth, with burial in Memorial Garden Cemetery in Dubuque. Pastor Stephanie Schlimm will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137.
Richard was born May 28, 1927, in Volga, Iowa, the son of Charles Zenda and Grace (Lowe) Potter. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952, in the European Theatre. Richard married Joyce Bergmann on January 14, 1961, in Indianola, Iowa. Together they enjoyed traveling with their family, especially to places he could not visit while trucking. When traveling to Monterey Bay to visit family, Dick’s first priority was to sail on rough seas before any other sightseeing. Later in life he enjoyed making replica models of horse-drawn carriages and his family home farm, and collecting vintage tools.
Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; four children: David (Diana) Potter of Monterey, CA., Scott (Jennifer ) Potter of New Haven, MO, Laurie (Matt) Urban of Dubuque, IA, and Randy (Anne) Potter of Dyersville, IA; grandchildren: Chelsea (Bill) Jakob, Justin (Lindsey) Potter, Jessica (Josh) Rankin, Elizabeth (fiancé Dustin Boyette) Urban, Samuel (Kenzie) Urban, Sarah O’Dell, Amanda (Justin) Adams and Timothy Potter; great grandchildren: Bill Jr. (Emily) and Johnathon Jakob, Bethany, Michael, Daniel and Hannah Rankin; a sister, Norma Vondra of Easley, SC; sisters-in-law, Lucille (Ed) Hiller of Indianola, IA and Maxine (Jim) Bots of Marthasville, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Kroy Urban, a brother, Daniel (Lois) Potter, a brothers-in-law: Donald Vondra and Rolland Bergmann.
