Obituary of Robert Charles Krapfl
Robert “Bob” Krapfl, 86 of New Vienna, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 3:00 p.m. and the Edward E. Lake VFW Post #7736 will have a military service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Post #7736. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Bob was born May 4, 1932, the son of Elmer and Eleanor (Deutmeyer) Krapfl. He married Ellen “Nellie” Goldsmith on May 29, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville, Iowa.
Bob was a proud veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was co-manager of New Vienna CO-OP along with his brother until retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, New Vienna VFW, and the Dyersville Golf and Country Club. Bob was a lifelong baseball enthusiast. He played with the Dyersville Whitehawks, and several local teams. He was inducted into the Dubuque County Baseball Hall of Fame. Bob was known to many as “Maverick” because of his love of card playing. In his golden years he truly loved and supported his grandchildren in their many activities.
Bob is survived by his wife Nellie, three daughters: Mary Ellen (John) Gates of Cedar Rapids, Kay (Tom) Klaren of Dyersville, Karen (Kevin) Didio of Cedar Rapids, 7 grandchildren: Kyle (Emily) Gates, Kellie (J.P.) Helgens, and Meggie Gates, Brian (Samantha) Klaren, Rachel (Brandon) Bollaert, Andy Didio, Brandon Didio, 2 great grandchildren, Jackson Klaren, Mason Gates and another boy on the way, siblings: Don (Jean) Krapfl of New Vienna, Jean (Dan) Hermsen of Dyersville, in-laws: Mary Lou Krapfl of New Vienna, Betty (Hank) Ehrlich of Dyersville, and Bernadine Nefzger of Earlville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Alexander Didio, brother, Roger Krapfl, in-laws: George (Laura) Goldsmith, Genevieve (Ray) Olberding, Margaret (Clem) Kapler, Delores (Ed) Nefzger, Mary (John) Kupferschmidt, Mildred (Larry) Kramer, Floyd (Marie) Goldsmith, James, (Bertha) Goldsmith, Fred (Darlene) Goldsmith, and Arthur Goldsmith, Jr.
Memorials may be directed to Beckman High School or St. Boniface Catholic Church.
