Obituary of Eldon George Gaul
Eldon G. Gaul, 86 of Dyersville and formerly of Petersburg passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12, SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Petersburg, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate and Rev. Richard Gaul will concelebrate. Military honors will be accorded by the Dyersville American Legion Post #137.
Eldon was born May 25, 1932 in Luxemburg, Iowa the son of Alphonse and Regina (Fangmann) Gaul. He married Helen P. Hermsen on August 18, 1956 in New Vienna. Eldon was a US Veteran serving in the Army from 1953-1955. He always loved a good game of Solo and spending time with his family. Eldon worked hard his whole life, continuing to get up before the sun even after retirement.
Survivors include his five children: Sharon (Larry) Monroe of Maplewood, MN, Michael Gaul of Petersburg, Carla (Stan) Thomas of Peosta, Patricia Gaul (Charles Duch) of Alexandria, VA, Pete (Kim) Gaul of Petersburg, grandchildren: Brigid (Dan) Burhans, Cori (Aaron) Burbach, Tony (Callie) Gaul, Casey (Tim) Riesberg, Chad (Tiffany) Thomas, Emily (Brandon) Stone, Ryan, Elliot, Evan, Owen Gaul, 6 great grandchildren: siblings: Marvin Gaul of Holy Cross, Gerald (Joan) Gaul of Farley, Virgil (Helen) Gaul of Dubuque, Eileen (Richard) Hermsen, in-laws: Delores Gaul of Epworth, Diane Hermsen of New Vienna, Roger (Grace) Hermsen of Manchester, Bernice (Ken) Vorwald of New Vienna, Gladys (Harry) Burkle, of Dyersville, Elizabeth Deutmeyer of Petersburg, Arthur Hermsen of New Vienna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen in 2016, siblings: Lawrence Gaul, Laura (Ralph) Meyer, Leander Gaul in infancy, in-laws: Germaine Gaul, Tom Deutmeyer, Harold Hermsen and Joyce Hermsen.
Eldon’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Oakcrest Manor for the wonderful care they gave their dad for the last three years.
Memorials may be directed to the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church restoration project.
