Obituary of Kenneth Harold Gassmann
Kenneth Harold Gassmann, 77, of Bull Head City, Arizona and formally of Manchester, Iowa passed away of natural causes February 13, 2018 in Bull Head, Arizona.
Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. In remembrance of Ken, anyone wishing to attend Saturday evening mass can attend at 5 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa.
Ken was born October 11, 1940 in Petersburg, Iowa the son of Aloysius and Leonette (Kluesner) Gassmann. He married Jacqueline Jaycox in 1963 and they adopted two beautiful children, but later divorced. After graduating from high school he worked for Orkin pest control, and as a shoe salesman. He also held various jobs including a general manager for the Manchester Golf & Country Club in Manchester, Iowa from 1968-1981, then from 1981-1985 general manager of the Resort Hotel La Casa del Zorro Borrego Springs, California, from 1985-1988 owned and ran Mort's Menwear in Borrego Springs, California and lastly, from 1988-2003 he was a food services director for the Borrego Springs Unified School District, Borrego Springs, CA. Ken retired in 2004 and moved to Laughlin Nevada and although retired, he worked for WACOG headstart program in Bull Head City, AZ from 2006-2013 when he decided to completely retire.
Ken was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Bull Head city Arizona and an active member of the National Guard from 1963-1969. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
Survivors include two adopted children: Tyler (Marian) Gassmann of Masonville, IA, and Tara Gassmann of Marion, IA, 4 grandchildren: Emily, Gage, Lauren and Mason Gassmann,
siblings: Betty Gotto of Epworth, Gladys Knepper of Dyersville, Mary Agnes (Jim) Schnier of Bellevue, Connie Lueck of Mineral Point, WI, Lyle Gassmann of Dubuque, Gerald (Jerry) Gassmann of Bettendorf, in-laws: Marge Gassmann of Dubuque, Bev Gassmann of St. Landry, LA, Robert Fitzgerald of Dyersville and Betty Gassmann of Dyersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Mitchel Gassmann in infancy, siblings: Marvin (Pat) Gassmann, Eileen (William) Besler, LeRoy Gassmann, Robert Gassmann, John (Gracie) Gassmann, Sylvia Fitzgerald and in-laws: Paul Knepper, Sylvester “Butch” Gotto, Merle Lueck,
