For months now I have been sitting next to Don at 6:30AM Mass in Dyersville. I did not know who he was, but he didn't seem to mind. He even helped entertain my 1 year old daughter the few times I brought her. I didn't realize who he was until I saw the obituary in the newspaper. I will miss sitting next to him at Mass. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To Donna, Don's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as Don's sibling, you have our sympathy. The picture of Donald in his white communion suit comes to mind. What a handsome boy who grew up to be Mr. Nice Guy. RIP cousin.

I heard my dad talk of Don many times. Don was a very good friend of my dads. He was very glad that Don asked him to play cards that last Tuesday afternoon. I remember Austin and Garret from playing baseball.. I knew of Dads and Dons friendly rivalry between the Packers and the Vikings.
With deepest sympathy,
Craig Kerper

I am Chris, Steve Kerper's' son. Don and my dad had become very good friends over the years and as dad mentioned to me many times Don was the glue that held the Wednesday night meetings together. Together they effected so many people in a positive way and he will be missed by many. Your family has our deepest sympthathy in his passing.

Dear Donna, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and extended family,
Darkness has overshadowed our neighborhood with the loss of two familiar faces. We extend our sincere sympathy to you Donna, your children, and grandchildren. Also sympathy to Don's sister, and brothers and their families that I know so well. Death comes like a thief in the night and it is so painful. Please know I am praying for each of you as you walk in the valley of darkness. We know Don has seen the Great Light. May his memories linger for years to come and know as neighbors we care a lot. (That sounds like a Care Bear doesn't it)? Miriam Eick

I worked as a CNC operator at JD in the late 1980’s with Don as my supervisor. He could cut through the BS and get things done. The crew and others respected him because he was true to his word Story: a wage employee temporarily assigned to our department was unhappy with his job and was very vocal about it Don came through on his 2 wheel bike, talked to some of the guys and went to his office. I’m in there on another matter when the unhappy guy comes blasting in with the union steward by the shirt demanding a reassignment to another department because of a rumor of a great job there. Don says ok, I’ll call Human Resources, does, then gives the employee a smile and says “you got it! Third shift Sunday night repair department.” Trap door opens. Troublesome guy gone. Crew happy. What a touch! JD could have used a lot more supervisors with his gifts! Great guy. Will be missed! Tom Paisley, Dubuque Retiree.
