DYERSVILLE, IOWA Elvera J. (Hoeger) Curtis "Vera", 89 of Dyersville, Iowa died Saturday March 5, 2011 at Oak Crest Care Center, Dyersville, Iowa. Friends may call from 1 until 8 p.m. Tuesday March 8, 2011 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where Catholic Daughters of America and American Legion Auxiliary Post #137 will recite a Rosary at 1:30 PM and a parish scripture service will be held at 5 p.m. A Mass of Catholic Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday March 9, 2011 at St Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in St Francis cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Dennis Quint. Vera is survived by her children Sheila (Bob) Ridgeway of Dyersville, Diane Courtney (special friend, Tim O'Mara)of Dubuque, Gene (Julie) Curtis of Marion, Alan (Mary Kay) Curtis and Yvonne Curtis-Younes both of Dyersville; 13 grandchildren, Jeff (Tracy) Little, Jody Little, Theresa (Tom) Brown, all of Dubuque, Brad (Deborah) Courtney of Purvis, Mississippi, Lori Grant of Dubuque, Nathan (Ann) Courtney of Ottumwa, Nicole (Chris) Link of Dyersville, Paul Curtis and Kristen (Kevin) Temple of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Curtis of McGregor, Craig Curtis of Dyersville, Jennifer (Russ) Henry of Fort Polk La. and Becky Howard of Cedar Rapids; 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother Joe Hoeger of Dyersville; 2 sisters, Betty Jasper of Farley and Dolores Klostermann of Dubuque; and 1 sister-in-law Clara Mae Hoeger of Dyersville. Vera was born on January 7.1922 in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Eleanor (Schlichte) Hoeger. She married Paul E. Curtis on January 7, 1942 in Dyersville, Iowa. Vera was employed at Mercy Hospital in Dyersville as a nursing assistant. She provided in-home care for numerous people in Dyersville. Vera was active in the CD of A, a member of the St. Francis Xavier Basilica and Resurrection choirs, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was active in boys and girls scouting and in the band mother's association for both Xavier and Beckman high schools. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her daughter Barbara Curtis Kirner; great grandson Alexander Grant; her brothers Bernie, Al ,Tony ,Frank Hoeger; her brothers-in-law Vern Klosterman, Roy Jasper, and her sisters-in-law Dorothy, Catherine, Gladys and Lois Hoeger.
