Obituary of John Joseph LaPage

John was born on December 22, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Frank and Rose (Maylo) LaPage. He married Ellen M. King on February 18, 1967, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth, Iowa. John served in the United States Navy from 1966 - 1969 with two tours to Vietnam. After his service to his country, he returned to Epworth and worked for John Deere Dubuque Works for 36 years retiring on May 31, 2006. John was a member of the American Legion Post 137, VFW Post 7736, and past board member for the Dyersville Sportsman Club and Royal Lanes. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, do woodworking projects for the grandchildren, collect baseball caps and his passion was bowling. John achieved three 300 games, and an 803 series in his career. He is honored in the Dyersville Bowling Hall of Fame as well as the American Bowling Association Hall of Fame in St. Louis, MO. John also traveled around the world with many friends and family. Surviving are his wife, Ellen, and daughters: Lisa (Mike) Fesanco and their son, Michael of West Melbourne, FL, Lora (Jeffrey) Santi and their daughters: Madison and Maren and son, Ethan of Charleston, SC, and Kimberly (Dave) Beitz and their son, Ryan and daughter, Claire of Tiffin, IA, brother Gervase "Fritz" (Nancy) Lammer of Pensacola, FL, brother-in-law, Harvey (Beta) King, sisters-in-law: Sandy (Jerry) Melssen and Mary Lou King all of Epworth, IA. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose (Maylo) LaPage, and foster parents, Mac and Dorothy Tobin. Friends may call from 1 - 8 P.M. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 7736 will gather at 7 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 11, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by Dyersville American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 7736. John's family wishes to extend a special thank you to all his friends and family for their loving support, to Hospice of Dubuque for their care and compassion, especially nurse Edna, and social worker, Jennie, Dr. Mark Herman and all his wonderful staff in the Oncology Department at Dubuque Internal Medicine.
