Obituary of Donald Merle Gilmore
MONTICELLO, IOWA
Donald M. Gilmore, 94, of Monticello died Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish vigil service will be held at 5 pm. Visitation will continue Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, from 10–11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Monticello where the Monticello Drill Team will accord military honors.
Don was born September 2, 1923, north of Springville the son of Ralph and Alma (DeVoe) Gilmore. He graduated from the Anamosa High School in 1943 and served in the US Army during the Occupation of Japan after WWII from 1946 – 1947. He married Mildred Evers in February of 1948. Don was a police officer and eventually the Chief of Police in Monticello, worked at Julin Printing, and retired from Energy Manufacturing on his 62nd birthday. In his spare time he was an avid fisherman, loved to play cards and was a good dancer.
He is survived by his four daughters: Sandra (Gary) Schwab, Jana (Jim) Siebels, LuAnn (Gary) Weber and Faye (Kevin) Williams, all of Monticello; 5 grandchildren: Daniel Ginter, Jason Whittemore, Mindy (Ben) Capron, Shawn (Christina) Weber and Noah Williams; 5 great grandchildren: Morgan Ginter, Chesney and Ava Capron, Madalynn and Kaden Weber; in-laws: MayAnn Gilmore of Anamosa, Jack Evers of Rowley, IA, and Kathleen Postel of Monticello.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, a grandson, Scott Weber, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
