Obituary of Lillian Mary Wessels
Lillian M. Wessels, 86, of New Vienna, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017, at Luther Manor, Dubuque, Iowa.
Visitation will be held 2 - 8 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 3:30 pm. Visitation will continue Friday from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm Friday, September 22, 2017, St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Conway will officiate.
Lillian was born January 30, 1931, in Colesburg, Iowa the daughter of Arnold and Gertrude (Lansing) Steger. She married James H. Wessels on June 2, 1952, in Colesburg. Together they farmed in the New Vienna area until retirement in 1996. She was a devoted farmer’s wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Jim loved Polka dancing, country music and traveling.
Lillian is survived by her 3 sons: Patrick (Brenda) and Gary (Pam), both of Dyersville, Marty (Wanda) of Farley; 3 daughters: Lynn (Jeff) Cizek of Traer, IA, Joyce (Kevin) Willman of Worthington, IA and Lois (Mark) Bonifas of Dubuque, IA; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; siblings: Robert (Lillian) Steger of Dyersville, Patrick (Margie) Steger of New Vienna, Charles (Carol) Steger of New Vienna, Mary Ann Bonert of Dyersville; in-laws: Leon (Eileen) Wessels of Dyersville, Kay Wessels and Ruth Wessels, both of New Vienna, and Rosemary (Marvin) Nickol of Dyersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim in 2002, a granddaughter, Kimberly Wessels; a brother, John Steger and in-laws: Fred J. (Mary Ann) Wessels, Louis and Earl Wessels and William Bonert.
The family wishes to send a special thanks to the nurses, CNA’s and staff of Luther Manor Memory Care Unit and Nursing Home for their compassion and care they provided to Lillian.
