Obituary of Jonathan Patrick Engler
DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Jonathon P. “Yish” Engler, 41, of Dyersville passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 pm Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Monday from 9 – 10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, September 4, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Conway will officiate.
Jon was born November 25, 1975, in Dubuque, the son of James and Jerri (Kettmann) Engler. He graduated from Beckman High School with the Class of 1994, and earned a degree from Loras College. He married Erin Cavanaugh on February 2, 2013, in Dyersville where they made their residence. Jon was an insurance agent at Engler-Oberbroeckling Insurance and worked with the Catholic Order of Foresters for seventeen years.
Jon was a very loving family man who spent most of his free time with them. He was an avid Cubs, Hawkeyes and Bears fan whose highlight was witnessing the Cubs win a World Series. He also enjoyed fantasy football, bowling, softball, golf and fishing.
He will forever be remembered for his huge heart, booming laugh and incredible bear hugs.
Survivors include his wife, Erin; 3 children: Cavi, Patrick and Liam; his mother, Jerri (Jim) Pennekamp of Dyersville, his parents-in-law, Brian and Denise Cavanaugh of Dubuque; siblings: Mike (Bev) Engler of Worthington, and their family, Jason, Jeremy and Justin Engler; Paul (Deb) Engler of Worthington, and their family, James, Josh and Joe Engler; Sharon (Richard) Cody of Dubuque, and their family, Shane, Marissa and Lauren Cody; Karla (Robert) Larsen of East Moline, IL, and their family, Blake, Garrett and Mackenzie Larsen; in-laws: Alyssa (Tony) Dalsing of Peosta, and their family, Bailey, Cael and Addy Dalsing; and Tom (Mary) Cavanaugh of Dubuque, and their daughter, Fiona.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Engler, and an infant sister-in-law, Jennifer Cavanaugh.
Memorials are preferred.
