My sympathy to the entire Steffen family. I've gotten to know quite a few of you over the years and I know your Mom did a great job raising a wonderful family. No matter how old, it is hard to say good-bye, especially to the "rock" of the family, and I know she will be greatly missed. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Take care. Janet

My condolences to you, Steffen family. Many wonderful memories with Christmas and Easter celebrations! Aunt Verna Mae had such a zest for life and fun loving. At Matt Nurre's wedding, it was great hearing her share stories about growing up on the farm in Petersburg and how she and siblings sang in morning when milking cows. She also kept count of all the grand-children and great-grand children. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God grant you peace and comfort during this time of mourning.

To the loving family of my Aunt Verna Mae,
Having moved from Iowa over 50 years ago it was always a joy to read Aunt Vera Mae's annual Christmas note in her card to us. She did express her strong and loving heart in a way that made me smile and cause a feeling of warmth. The memories I have of eating her wonderful desserts is as vivid as it was long ago, but most importantly her joy and delight in seeing the hoards of "young-uns" descend. She probably spent the next two days cleaning up our muddy tracks, cake and cookie crumbs...but we always knew she was glad to see us. What a gift for us Decker kids to be so welcome with the ever present smile and twinkling eye.
To read of the impact she made on so many in her and Uncle Julius's life including 60 great grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren, it is truly remarkable and a testament to her strength, love, courage. She will be missed and Jim and I extend our deepest sympathies to you all. May all the wonderful memories you have bring you peace and comfort as time passes. We celebrate this amazing "good old fashioned farm wife", she is truly one of a kind for all who knew her.
With affection, Vi (Decker) Coats
