Obituary of Helen Catherine Westhoff
NEW VIENNA, IOWA
Helen C. Westhoff, 79, of New Vienna passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017, St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O’Connor will officiate.
Helen was born August 16, 1937, in Holy Cross, Iowa the daughter of Alphonse and Coletta (Zewen) Lake. She married Fred Westhoff on May 25, 1957, in Holy Cross. Together they raised their children in New Vienna. After her children were grown she began working at the New Vienna Savings Bank and finally in housekeeping at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville.
Helen was an avid sports fan, supporting the Beckman High School Teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals (and any team opposing the Cubs), and the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include her husband, Fred, children: Kathy (Dave) Beck of Cascade, Lynn (Mark) Cory of Indianola, Tom (Tammy) Westhoff of Norwalk and Jason (Jill) Westhoff of Eldridge; grandchildren: Kristie (Ben) McCarthy, Adam (Danielle) Beck, Kara (Matt) Hosch, Andy (Deann) Beck, Meredith (Travis) Dietz, Emily (Joe) Hammond, Ellyn Cory, Megan Westhoff, Juliana Stahle, Kiley Westhoff, Brynn and Lauren Westhoff; 9 great grandchildren with 3 on the way; a brother, David (Mary Lou) Lake of Holy Cross, in-laws: Shirley Lake of Dyersville, Lou Ann Wieneke of Dubuque, Dan (Mona) Westhoff and Larry (Mary) Westhoff, both of New Vienna, Richard Westhoff of Dubuque, William Westhoff of Sioux City, Bob (Debbie) Westhoff of Crete, IL and Linda (Dennis) Vavricek of Peosta.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 siblings: Donald Lake, Bob Lake, Doris (Bill) Sahm; and in-laws: Robert Wieneke and Ann Westhoff
Memorials are preferred to St. Boniface Catholic Church or Beckman Catholic High School.
