Obituary of Verna Mae Klostermann
Verna M. Klostermann, 90, of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 3, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 4, 2017, St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Jeffrey Dole will officiate.
Verna was born September 1, 1926, the daughter of John and Anna (Willenbring) Schlichte. She married Arthur L. Klostermann on February 12, 1946 in Dyersville. Together they farmed northeast of Dyersville. A loving and devoted mother, she was a beacon of light and a source of joy to her 12 children. Verna taught her children the meaning of respect, due diligence and follow-through, as well as to let go and let God. Hence, the message: "Never surrender except to God.”
A gracious and giving person, Verna was a board member of ARK Advocates for more than 25 years. Her parish involvement included membership on the Social Concerns Committee Board for more than 20 years. She was a volunteer for Host Bakers, Church Cleaners, Basilica Quilters, and she made many baby Baptismal Stoles. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America for more then 50 years. Verna will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Survivors include her children, Dave (Pam) Klostermann of Davenport, Lois (Chuck Crone) Lenz of Waseca, MN, Mary Lou Hanish of East Lansing, MI, Steve (Elaine) Klostermann of LeRoy, MN, Joan (Denton) Ketels of Eldora, IA, Robert (Lois) Klostermann of Arvada, CO, Rick Klostermann and Theresa (Chris) Prier, both of Dyersville, Jane (Michael Stell) Murillo of Waukee, IA, Marcia (Rob Butts) Klostermann of Smithville, MO, and Sharon (David) Trenkle of Buena Vista, CO, 28 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and in-laws Alma Willenborg, Mildred Schlichte, Ardella Schlichte, Lila Clemen, Vera Kroeger and Lorraine Klostermann.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, daughter Patricia Lahey, sons-in-law Jim Lenz, Wayne Hanish, and Rich Murillo, siblings Clarence (Julia), Lorraine (Mark) Pins, Joe (Germaine), Elmer, Alvin, and Bernard Schlichte, in-laws Rita (Jim) Duetmeyer, Vince Clemen, Ruth (Joe) Lansing, Gary Kroeger, and Alfred Klostermann.
