Obituary of Leon Francis Pasker
Leon F. Pasker, 78, of New Vienna, Iowa passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville after an eight-year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Visitation will be held 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 5 pm. Visitation will continue Monday from 9 – 10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O’Connor will officiate.
Leon was born January 26, 1939, near New Vienna on the Pasker farm that has been in the Pasker name since 1883. He was the son of Albert and Alvina (Wiskus) Pasker. He married Grace Oberbroeckling on May 30, 1959, in Luxemburg. Together they raised their family and farmed with Case tractors, Dodge vehicles, and Guernsey dairy cows.
Leon was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a supporter of the local college sports teams. He loved coaching Little League for the New Vienna Twins and Junior League Softball as well as playing on Vessie’s slow pitch softball team. He also had a passion to play and teach the game of golf to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Grace, 7 children: Karl (Carol) Pasker of Carol Stream, IL, Russ (Cerise Giddings) Pasker of Arlington, IA, Tom (Joyce) Pasker and Carmen (Mike) Kluesner, both of New Vienna, John (Michelle) Pasker of Earlville, Paul (Alicia) Pasker of Bettendorf and Nichole Johnson of New Hampton; 22 grandchildren: Betsy & Andrew Pasker, Steve (Abby) & Tracey (Josh) Tupy, Brad Pasker, Celina & Lane Giddings, Brooke, Rachel, Logan & Troy Pasker, Matt (Holly Thomas) Kluesner, Angie (Matt) White, Joshua, Jacob & Noah Pasker, Kelsey Pasker, Jadin, Cohen & Noah Knudson, Ashley & Emily Jackson; 8 great grandchildren: Erika & Marek Pasker, Bryce, Chase & Claire Tupy, Jacey & Dane Thomas and Bailey White; siblings: Urban (Joan) Pasker of New Vienna, Verna Westmark Theiman of Cincinnatti, James (Marie) Pasker of Colesburg; and in-laws: Elmer Oberbroeckling of Luxemburg, Eunice Prier of Manchester and LaVonne Clemen of Holy Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and in-laws: John Westmark, Don Theiman, Carolyn Oberbroeckling, Marvin Prier, and Leon Clemen.
Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
