DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Mary E. Clemen, 91, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 2 – 6 p.m., Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2 pm. Visitation will continue Monday from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 20, 2017, St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Mary was born October 10, 1925, in Rockwell, Iowa the daughter of John C. and Mary M. (Faulkner) Bluel. She grew up in Rockwell, Iowa and later attended Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois. Mary was united in marriage to Cletus H. Clemen on June 15, 1946, at Sacred Heart Parish in Rockwell. Together they raised their family on a farm near Ryan, Iowa. In 1978 they moved to Dyersville, Iowa. Mary broke ground as the first woman full-time field representative for the Catholic Order of Foresters Life Insurance Company from 1956 to 2010. She was the Catholic Order of Foresters first woman million dollar producer. With the Foresters she had many accomplishments including president of the National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors (NAFIC), Iowa Fraternal Congress, and the Iowa’s Association of FIC’s.
Mary was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish in Dyersville. She sang with the Resurrection Choir, was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of many prayer groups. She was also an active volunteer at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by her three sons: Dr. Michael J. (Judith) Clemen of St. Augustine, FL., David A. (Vinh) Clemen of Mililani, Hawaii, and LTC (Ret) Gerald T. (Gabriele) Clemen of Oak Island, NC, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, her sister, Josephine Schmitt of Ankeny, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cletus in 1989, one son, William, a daughter, Mary Ann Watts, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Clemen, and siblings, John Bluel and Margaret Vosberg.
