Obituary of Ruth Helen Hemmer

Ruth was born on May 4, 1924, in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Madaline (Hess) Hemmer. After graduating from Xavier High School she worked for the Jaeger Butter Tub Factory and later for the Iowa Telephone and Telegraph Company as a customer service representative, the Dyersville Sale Barn, the Plaza Theatre. In later years she worked at the M.M. Hoffmann/James Kennedy Public Library. Ruth was an active member of the Dyersville Historical Society, Catholic Daughters of America the American Legion Post 137 Auxiliary, the Dyersville Golf and Country Club, the Dyersville Hospital Auxiliary, and the Mt. Hope Cemetery Board. Ruth loved to play bridge, golf, bowl, travel and spend time in the garden. Surviving are a sister-like cousin, Geraldine Engler of Dyersville, a very close extended family and a wealth of good friends. These lucky friends and family were often the beneficiaries of her warm hospitality and wonderful cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Lois Hemmer. Friends may call from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 3:00 p.m. and a Catholic Daughters of America/American Legion Auxiliary Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 25, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial at St. Paul Cemetery in Worthington. Officiating will be Rev. Dennis Quint. Memorials are preferred to Beckman High School.
