DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Donald G. Tegeler, 82, of Dyersville died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held 2 – 8 pm Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery.
Donald was born March 19, 1934, on the family farm near Earlville the son of Gregor and Mathilda (Billmeyer) Tegeler. He married Patricia A. Willenbring on November 24, 1952, in Luxemburg. She preceded him in death in 1998. He later married Cathy Willis from Colorado on Oct. 3, 2003. Together they organized a local Parkinson’s Support Group in Dyersville. Don was a certified electrician at John Deere Dubuque Works for 38 years and was a member of UAW Local 94. In his spare time his hobbies were collecting and restoring vintage Camaros, and he enjoyed playing music at the nursing homes. His last big thrill was seeing the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 2016.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy, sons: Bob Tegeler, David (Karen) Tegeler; his daughters: Debra (friend Wayne Pearce) Kruse and Sherry (Terry) Thier all of Dyersville; grandchildren: Dawn (Brent) Schroeder, Rachael (Aaron) Plein, Matt Tegeler, Zach Tegeler, Jonathon (Kayla), Danielle Tegeler, Travis (Kristie) Thier, Justin and Robbie Thier;
5 great grandchildren: Addilyn and Luke Plein, Kirsten and Dylan Schroeder, and MaKenzie Thier; 2 sisters: Lou Overman of Dyersville, Bernice Holub of Prairieburg; step brother Herb Tegeler of Dyersville, step sister Mary Jean Westhoff of New Vienna, in-laws: Gloria Maiers, Diane (Bill) Ernzen, Marlene (Ray) Schlarmann, Donna Willenbring , Elaine Willenbring, Bev Tegeler of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia, one son: James Tegeler, daughter-in-law, Sandy Tegeler, siblings: infant Lucille Tegeler, Elmer (Edna), Ray (Irene), Tony (Dorothy), Gib (Sedelle) Tegeler, Helen (Wilfred) Kramer, Norma (Herb Platz and Lawrence Deppe), Leona (August) Gudenkauf, and Marcella (Fritz) Bries;
in-laws: Irv Overman, Earl Holub, Daniel, Dennis and Richard Willenbring and Vernon Maiers.
