Laura R. Maiers, 91 of Dubuque and formerly of New Vienna, Iowa died peacefully Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Luther Manor in Dubuque, Iowa surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville, Iowa where an American Legion Auxiliary prayer service will be held at 4 p.m.
Visitation will continue at 9 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2016 at Resurrection Church in Dubuque, Iowa prior to funeral services where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, New Vienna, Iowa. Rev. Joseph Hauer will officiate.
Laura was born May 25, 1925 in New Vienna, the daughter of Anton and Mary (Sandman) Mescher. She graduated in 1943 from St. Boniface High School. Following her mother's death in 1944, she stayed home to care for her 3 younger siblings and her dad, whose care she continued to provide until his death in 1975. On October 2, 1950 she married Eddie Maiers in New Vienna. In addition to her tireless care and love for her family, she owned and operated Kustom Plastics for 20 years. Laura was a charter member of the Edward W. Lake VFW Auxiliary Post 7736.
Laura is survived by her husband, Eddie, children: Jim (Barb) of Dubuque, Gary (Diane) of Plymouth, MN., Dave (Shirley) of Bloomington, MN., Tom (Deb) of Rochester, MN., Marty (Ann) of Iowa City, IA., Bill (Sandi) of Cedar Falls, IA., Don (AJ) of Cedar Rapids, IA., 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Laura is also survived by her brother, Al (Vi) Mescher and sister, Rose Johanningmeier of Dubuque, brothers and sisters-in-law include Marion Mescher of Melbourne, Australia, Fran Mescher, Leon Maiers, Clete (Shirley) Maiers, Al (Pat) Maiers, all of Dubuque, Eileen Kluesner of Farley, Norma Maiers of Dyersville and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and their spouses: Herb (Irene), Vince (Lucille), Elmer, Ray, Eddie (Anna Jane), Don (Betty) and Bob (Peggy), sisters: Alma (Jim) Healy and Arlene (Dick) Southwell, brothers and sisters-in-law: Elmer Johanningmeier, Harriet Maiers, Wilmer Maiers and Jerry Kluesner.
The family greatly appreciates the wonderful care provided by Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Luther Manor, Church of the Resurrection, St. Boniface Church or Beckman High School.
