Obituary of Joseph Arnold Weber

HOLY CROSS, IOWA Joseph Arnold Weber, 80, of Holy Cross died at home in the presence of loved ones on September 21, 2016. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a parish vigil service for family members will be held at 1:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate. Joe was born on January 1, 1936 to Marie (Lansing) and Arnold Weber of Colesburg, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and married Elizabeth (Betty) Henkels on November 19, 1958 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Together they lived on their farm near Holy Cross for 58 years where they raised seven children. In addition to farming and raising Angus beef cattle, Joe worked as a machinist for John Deere in Dubuque for 33 years. He had a passion for family, walleye fishing, card playing, country music and telling stories. He loved a good practical joke, visiting with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Betty, children Laurie (Sam) Helling of Dubuque, Lynn (Dave) McCormick of West Des Moines, Cathy (Rich) Russell of Dubuque, Becky (Ken) Veit of Jefferson City, Missouri, Caroline (Jeff) Hicks of Bettendorf, Jeffrey (Jane Schilling) of Petersburg, and Michael (Michelle) of Dubuque, grandchildren Matt and Nick Helling, Patrick and Steven McCormick, Evan Russell, Zachary, Elizabeth, and Adam Veit, Andrew and Emily Hicks, Maria (fiancé Sam) and Jacob Weber, Peyton and Riley Weber. Joe is survived by his sisters Catherine Westhoff, Joan (Ray) Nurre and Donna Kruse of Dyersville, Angeline (Dick) Haupert and Connie Weber of Dubuque; his brothers Jim (Mary) Weber of Cedar Rapids and John (Deb) Weber of Longmont, Colorado; brother-in-law Charlie Nurre of Strawberry Point. Joe is welcomed into heaven by loved ones, including his parents Arnold & Marie Weber, his sister Alice Nurre, parents-in-law Loretta & Gebhard Henkels, brothers-in-law John Kruse and Roland Westhoff, and Betty's uncle Ray Ellerbach who lived and helped on the farm for many years.
