Urban G. Herbers, 91, of Dyersville formerly of New Vienna died Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Oakcrest Manor in Dyersville.
Friends may call from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A continued visitation will be from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Thursday prior to Funeral services at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Rev. Jeffery Dole will officiate with Rev. Simon Herbers concelebrating.
Urban was born March 14, 1925 to Joseph and Anna (Steffen) Herbers. He married Eileen Vorwald on May 21, 1949 in Holy Cross, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised their family near New Vienna. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and touched many lives. He served on the Beckman School Board, Farm Credit Services Board, and several church committees. Urban was involved with the Little G collector club and the Two Cylinder Club. He was innovative in the agricultural community, and supportive of the local catholic schools. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring antique tractors and playing solo.
Survivors include four sons: Richard (fiancé Betty Fort) Herbers of Dubuque, Dan (Janet) Herbers of Chesterfield, MO, Greg (Beth) Herbers of Battle Creek, MI, and Steve (Chrissy) Herbers of New Vienna, 12 grandchildren: Mollie (Brian) Prescott of Abington, IL, Kelly (Robert) Kodoko of Colleyville, TX, Amy (Steve) Kinney of McKinney, TX, and Tim (Laura) Herbers of Dyersville, Brett Herbers and Stephanie Herbers both of Chesterfield, MO, Matthew Herbers and Jacob Herbers of Battle Creek, MI, Jason Herbers of Dubuque, Eric, Tammy and Rachael Herbers of New Vienna, 9 great grandchildren,
siblings:, Joan (Nick) Dunkel of Manchester, Sr. Gabriel Herbers of St. Paul, MN, Rev. Simon Herbers of Houston, TX, in-laws: Luella Cushing of Golden, CO, Dori Vorwald of Holy Cross, and Kathy Vorwald of Rockford, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eileen in 2008, parents-in-law, Norbert and Lavina (Lynch) Vorwald, and Brothers and Sister-in-law, Bob and Agnes Vorwald, Gene Vorwald, Jerome Vorwald.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oakcrest Manor and the Hospice of Dubuque.
