Obituary of Myron Joseph Hittenmiller

Myron J. “Flick” Hittenmiller, 92, of Dyersville died Friday, May 6, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 - -11:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. and American Legion Post 137 will hold their vigil service. Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery where American Legion Post 137 will accord military honors.
Myron was born June 21, 1923, in Dyersville, the son of Albert “Flick” and Marie (Berndsen) Hittenmiller. He served in the US Navy toward the end of WWII. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Demuth on Oct. 30, 1948. Flick was a Rural Postal Carrier until retirement at the age of 54.
Flick was an avid coin collector since childhood. He attended his first coin show in Dubuque in 1949and after retirement from the Postal Service eventually opened a coin shop there, and later in Manchester. He belonged to several of the surrounding coin clubs in Iowa. Some of his other hobbies were bowling, for which he was inducted into the Dyersville Bowling Hall of Fame. He also managed the Dyersville Whitehawks in 1952 -1953 and coached the Little League Braves. He was very active with the Dyersville Commercial Club. He was a 70 year member of American Legion Post 137.
Survivors include 4 children: Michael (Linda) of Davenport, Jan (Gary “Pink”) Kruse of New Vienna, Bill (Laurie) of Shueyville and Ray (Mary Bracken) of Monte Rio, Calif.
9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; in-laws: Dorothy Hittenmiller of Dyersville and Grace Hittenmiller of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, on May 7, 2012; siblings: James and Robert Hittenmiller, and Mary Eileen (John) Murphy.
