Obituary of Mae Louise Ovel

Mae Louise “Weedy” Ovel, 95, of Dyersville, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a CD of A and Legion Auxiliary rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Weedy was born in Dyersville on August 7, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Hoffmann) Besler. She received her sacraments and education at St. Francis Xavier. She married Alfred “Fritz” Ovel on May 27, 1941. Weedy was a dedicated wife and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed bowling, golf, Bingo, sewing, and card playing with friends and family. She was famous for her rhubarb pie. Weedy’s afghans are family prized possessions.
She is survived by her 3 children: Mary “Cookie” (Don) Scherrman of Dyersville, John (Jean Ann) Ovel of Kansas City, MO, Deb (Randy) Schuster of Holy Cross, 11 grandchildren, Todd (Lori) Scherrman, Cathy (Jim) Gibbs, Jackie (Dina) Scherrman, Sandra (Julio) Umana, Susan (Eric) Martin, Jessica (Drew) Hull, Melissa (Lee) Yanik, Rebecca (Trey) Bowen, Matthew Ovel, Jill (Tom) Harron, Abby (Pat) Turner, 19 great grandchildren and, 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred “Fritz” in 1992, son, Bob Ovel in 1979, five brothers and four sisters.
The family would like to thank the Ellen Kennedy Living Center staff and Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville for their compassionate and loving care.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Francis Xavier Basilica or Ellen Kennedy Living Center.
