Loretta, better known as “Ret” to her family and friends, was born August 12, 1947 in Temple Hill, the daughter of Lloyd and Elda (Otting) Takes. She grew up with her 15 siblings in Temple Hill and Monticello and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1965. On October 1, 1966, she married the love of her life, Pat Beckman, at Sacred Heart Church, Monticello. In their early years of marriage, Loretta and Pat farmed together until moving closer to Monticello where she started working at Julin Printing until her retirement in 2006.
After retirement, Ret and Pat lived their dream traveling and living in their motor home. At their second home in Texas, they made many special friends that also became their second family. Ret loved playing cards, going to Bingo with the girls, and keeping Pat happy. On October 1, Ret and Pat would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She will be remembered for her contagious smile, her witty comebacks, and her ability to make friends wherever she went.
