LUXEMBURG, IOWA
Emmett A. Pins, 67, of Luxemburg died Thursday, February 11, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where the Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 656 and the Edward W. Lake V.F.W Post 7736 will attend at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday from 9 – 10 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb, 15, 2016, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, with burial in the church cemetery where American Legion Post 636 and V.F.W. Post 7736 will accord military honors. Rev. Richard Gaul will officiate.
Emmett was born December 5, 1948, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Arnold and Eleanor (Pottebaum) Pins. He married Luann Tigges October 16, 1971, in Sherrill, Iowa. Together they raised 5 beautiful children.
Emmett was a decorated veteran. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1969-1970 serving 2 tours in Vietnam. Emmett initially fought on the front lines with the First Infantry Division and later transferred after being hospitalized to the 23rd Americal Division as an Assistant Ammo Chief. He was a member of the Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 636 and life member of New Vienna VFW Post 7736.
Emmett enjoyed baseball in his younger years playing for the Holy Cross team. He also coached baseball teams, served as councilman for 6 years and later as Mayor for 14 years. He also served on parish councils. Emmett enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, but especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his five children: Troy (Heather) Pins of Cedar Rapids, Stacey (Joe) White of Dyersville, Gina Pins of Cedar Rapids, Jared (Amanda) Pins of Hiawatha and Mindy (Aaron) Burds of Peosta; 11 grandchildren: Lydia, Carter and Mason White, Shane Pins, Avery, Adalyn and Juliana Pins, Drew, Ella, Kate and Cambrie Burds; 3 siblings: Norma (Marv) Deutmeyer of Dyersville, Bill (Grace) Pins of Cape Coral, Florida, and Alice (Robert) Roling of Holy Cross; the mother of his children, Luann Pins, and his brother-in-law, Terry Tigges.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his parents-in-law: Joe and Catherine Tigges.
