MONTICELLO, IOWA Darlene E. Marugg, 74, of Monticello died Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at St. Luke’s Continuing Care Center in Cedar Rapids. She was a 14 year survivor of Leukemia. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish vigil service will be held at 4:00 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello where the family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 10:00. Darlene was born Nov. 12, 1940, near Sand Springs the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Besler) Heims. She attended country school until 8th Grade and later earned her GED at Kirkwood Community College. She married Fritz Marugg on January 9, 1965, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington. The couple farmed near Hardscrabble near Monticello. In 1967, they purchased their farm in Richland Township. The couple later divorced. Darlene loved to go to the casinos on bus trips. Leather and needlework were a favorite pastime. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and its Guild. Her grandchildren were an important part of her life. She was the primary caregiver to her son, Russell, for 34 years. She is survived by two daughters, Sandy (Dan) Evans of Vinton, and Julie (Mike) Flitsch of Central City, and a son, Joe (Shelly) of Monticello and; grandchildren: Breanne, Russell and Jon Evans, Levi, Jay and Katie Flitsch; a brother, Jerome Heims of Ryan, and a sister-in-law, Mary Kay Heims of Monticello. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Russell, an infant granddaughter, Angela Flitsch, 2 brothers: Robert (Kay) Heims, Lloyd Heims, a sister-in-law, Dianne Heims and her former husband, Fritz. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 5th and 6th floors at St. Luke’s, Dr. Gosch and his staff and Above and Beyond Hospice for their exceptional care.
