Robert F. Recker, 87, of Marshalltown, formerly of North Liberty, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Military Detail will be accorded.
Robert was born July 14, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of George and Ludwina (Burkle) Recker. He entered the U.S. Army May 17, 1951 and received his basic training at Camp Chafee, Arkansas. Robert served in Korea 8 ½ months as Aus-Ammunition Fireman. He was wounded in a gas explosion in 1952 and hospitalized for 2 months in Japan. Robert was transferred to Camp Carson, Colorado until his release.
Survivors include his siblings: Esther Reichenauer of Monticello, Mary Jane Reichenauer , Sr. Margaret Ann Recker, OSF of Milwaukee, WI, Helen Hawker of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Ann) Recker of Dyersville, Velma (John) Krapfl of Dyersville, Donald (Joan) Recker of Nocogdoches, TX, Karol (Jim) Koch of Fairfax, sisters in law Mildred Recker of Dubuque, Maureen Recker of Epworth, Eileen Prier of Dyersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Germaine (Al) Kelchen, David (in infancy) Louis, George Jr. and Ralph Recker
