Marilyn Ann Mescher, 72, died peacefully on August 5, 2015, at her home, surrounded by family, after a battle with brain cancer. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Monday, August 10th from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Monday at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Marilyn was born March 19, 1943, daughter of Otto and Emma (Deutmeyer) Funke. She graduated from Xavier High School in 1960. Marilyn married Roger Mescher on November 30, 1968, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica. She worked at Dyersville National Bank until 1970, when she retired to stay home to raise her family. During her career as a homemaker she was actively involved in many aspects of the Dyersville community. She served on the boards of St. Francis Xavier School, Beckman Catholic High School, and the Dyersville Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for countless events. She enjoyed her time with her friends whether vacationing, on the golf course or on the river, but most importantly, Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her most treasured moments were those spent with her family. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Roger, her three children: Carmen (Robert) Krantz of Dyersville, Molly (Chad) Newhouse of Cedar Rapids and Laura (Jason) Sellers of Broomfield, CO; nine grandchildren: Kara, Conner, and Leah Krantz, Emma, Sophie, and William Newhouse, Madeline, Claire, and Gabrielle Sellers; one brother, Dennis (Jean) Funke of Dubuque; in-laws: Elaine Funke and Janaan “Jan” Funke, both of Dyersville Mary Ellen (Duane) Goedken of Muscatine, Myra Mescher of New York City and Donna (Dan) Meyer of Dyersville, Dale (Mary) Mescher of Cascade and Lee (Deb) Mescher of Goodyear, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Leroy (Lois), Robert, and David Funke, two sisters, Norma (Robert) Edleman, Vila (Dale) Hofer, a nephew Dean Funke, and her mother and father-in-law, Bill and Germaine Mescher. Memorials are preferred to Beckman Catholic High School, St. Francis Xavier School or St. Francis Xavier Basilica. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.kramerfuneral.com.
