Iva M. Oberbroeckling, 80, of Dubuque, Iowa and formerly of New Vienna, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Heritage Manor, Dubuque. Visitation will be held 3:30 – 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. The VFW 7736 Auxiliary will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2015, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O’Connor will officiate. Iva was born September 30, 1934, in Springbrook, Iowa the daughter of Peter F. and Elizabeth M. (Weis) Dondlinger. After graduation from Springbrook Catholic High School, Iva moved to Dubuque and started her career as a long distance telephone operator at Northwestern Bell. She met John H. “Jack” Oberbroeckling at the Melody Mill in Dubuque and were united in marriage on June 8, 1957 at the Catholic Church in Springbrook. Jack and Iva purchased the Oberbroeckling Homestead Farm near New Vienna from Jack’s parents and spent their careers farming that ground and raising their three children: Steve, Joe and Julie. Once their children were older, Iva also went back to her position at Northwestern Bell until it closed. Iva was a lifetime member of both the Catholic Order of Forester’s and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 7736. She held past positions as Treasurer for the Ladies VFW Auxiliary and as Secretary for the St. Boniface Parish Altar Society in New Vienna. Iva also spent many years singing in the St. Boniface Choir along with her husband. Throughout her life, she enjoyed listening to music and radio talk shows, as well as spending time with her family. She also enjoyed league bowling and neighborhood card club during her years spent on the farm. Iva is survived by her husband, Jack, of 58 years, their three children: Steve Oberbroeckling of Des Moines, Joe (Nancy) Oberbroeckling of Asbury, Julie (Jim) Wilson of Urbandale, grandchildren: Zach, Jake, and Hanna Oberbroeckling of Asbury, Emily Gibson of Des Moines, Sarah (Bryce) Champlin of Olathe, KS, great grandchildren: Layla and Brady Champlin, sisters: Jean Smith of Sumner, Anna Mae Steffen of Maquoketa, Adelene (Bernard) Hefel of Dubuque, Julaine (Rich) Frank of Bellevue, sisters-in-law: Lillian Dondlinger and Ailene Dondlinger of Springbrook, Eileen Donovan of Dubuque, brothers-in-law: Dan (Judy) Oberbroeckling of Asbury and Jim (Alice) Oberbroeckling of Coggon. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 stillborn children: John and Ann, 2 brothers: Norbert Dondlinger and Eldred Dondlinger and brothers-in-law: Valentine Smith and Leon Steffen.
