NEW VIENNA, IOWA
Leona C Cook, 97, of New Vienna died Monday, July 27, 2015, at Dubuque Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2015, at the Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 5:00 p.m and the St. Boniface Rosary Society will conduct a rosary at 4:15 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2015, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. John O'Connor.
Leona was born July 6, 1918, in Holy Cross, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Gotto) Meyer. She married John P. Cook on September 15, 1941, in Holy Cross, Iowa. Together they farmed near North Buena Vista on the family farm until they retired in 1967 when they moved to New Vienna. She loved to go fishing and vacationing, flower gardening, crocheting, baking and cooking. She was a member of the St. Boniface Rosary Society.
Leona is survived by 3 children: Robert (Rosie) Cook of Holy Cross, Mary Clemen of Suffolk, VA, and Donna (Bob) Cummer of Rickardsville; 10 grandchildren: Mary (Joe) Klein of Cody, WY, Kaye (Matt) Liebel of Kissimmi, FL, Randy Cook (friend Dixie) of Cedar Rapids, Mike (Kelly) Cook of Dyersville, Kathy (Frank) LeGrand of Suffolk, VA, Dan (Bev) Clemen of Dyersville, Lori (Steve) Bockenstedt of Dubuque, Kevin (Brenda) Cummer of Waverly, Keith (Kim) Cummer of Roeland Park, KS, and Kenny (Julie) Cummer of Indianola; 25 great-grandchildren with another expected in December, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Ceil Schueller of Dubuque, and a special nephew, John (Phyllis) Burns of Nashville, TN, who was raised by John and Leona.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John in 2011, 2 great-granddaughters, Brittany Clemen and Amanda LeGrand, a son-in-law, Ambrose Clemen, siblings: Cletus (Marie) Meyer, Bernita (Al) Wagner, and Anna (Tony) Errthum; in-laws: Maletta (Gus) Burns, Charles (Eleanor) Cook and Loren Schueller.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's charity of choice.
