John P. Cook, 94, of New Vienna died Friday, May 20, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 5 p.m. and a Holy Name Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. John was born August 31, 1916, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, the son of Philip and Clara (Klein) Cook. He Married Leona C. Meyer on September 15, 1941, in Holy Cross, Iowa. Together they farmed near North Buena Vista on the family farm until they retired in 1966. They moved to New Vienna where he worked for Neuhaus Dairy for 17 years. He was a member of the St. Boniface Holy Name Society. John enjoyed fishing and vacationing with Leona. John is survived by his wife, Leona, 3 children: Robert (Rosie) Cook of Holy Cross, Mary Clemen (friend John Bugis) of Hendersonville, TN, and Donna (Bob) Cummer of Rickardsville; 10 grandchildren: Mary (Joe) Klein of Cody, WY, Kaye Camp of Marietta, GA, Randy Cook (friend Gwen Buzynski) of Colesburg, Mike Cook (fiance Kelly Steger) of Dyersville, Kathy (Frank) LeGrand of Suffolk, VA, Dan (Bev) Clemen of Dyersville, Lori Clemen of Delhi, Kevin (Brenda) Cummer of Waverly, Keith Cummer of Roeland Park, KS, and Kenny (Julie) Cummer of Des Moines; 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law: Ceil Schueller and Eleanor Cook, both of Dubuque, and a special nephew, John (Phyllis) Burns, who was raised by John and Leona, of White House, TN. He is preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Brittany Clemen, a son-in-law, Ambrose Clemen, two sisters: Maletta (Gus) Burns and Marie (Cletus) Meyer, a brother, Charles Cook and brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Al and Bernita Wagner, Tony and Anna Errthum and Loren Schueller. Memorials are preferred to the donor's charity of choice. We would like to thank Dr. Paulsen and the staff at Mercy Medical Center for the wonderful care Dad and our family received.
