DYERSVILLE, IOWA
John "Jack" H. Evers, 80, of Urbandale, and formerly of Dyersville, IA, completed his life's journey here on earth Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Iowa Jewish Life Center in Des Moines, IA.
Friends may call from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Friday May 1, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Jeffrey Dole will officiate.
Jack was born January 25, 1935, in Dyersville the youngest child of Henry and Christina (Sauser) Evers. He graduated from Xavier High School in 1953 and moved to Florida where he began his career as a carpenter. In 1989, he returned to Dyersville and continued carpentry with Local Union 678 where he was a lifetime member.
On September 19, 1992 he married Gwenn Wessels at St. Francis Xavier Basilica. Jack was a kind, gentle, soft-spoken person who would always lend a hand to family and friends.
Jack is survived by his wife, Gwenn of Urbandale; three step-children: Karmen (Steve) Wilhelm of Marion, Kourtney (Dan) Keough of Clive and Kurt Kramer of Dubuque; seven grandchildren: Spencer and Paige Wilhelm, Emma Carlson and Ava Keough, Allie, Charlie and Jenny Keough; two brothers: Clyde (Mary) of Miami, FL, and Frank (Gin) of Melbourne, FL; in-laws: Gayle (Dean) Erschen of Zimmerman, MN, Gloria Knepper of Dyersville; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gene (Jolene) and a brother, William, in infancy.
A very special thank you to the staff at the Iowa Jewish Life Center for the care and compassion shown to Jack the last six months, and to Mercy Hospice in the final two weeks.
