Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 5:00 p.m., and American Legion/V.F.W Auxiliary Rosary at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Officiated will be Rev. Robert Gross Norma was born on May 9, 1931, in Holy Cross, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Susan (Ries) Maiers. She graduated from Leo High School with the Class of 1949 and married Fred M. Wessels on November 11, 1950, in Holy Cross, Iowa. She worked at Ben Franklin for 38 years and enjoyed her work as a seamstress. She was very active in both the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. She loved having her grandchildren nearby, and occasionally enjoyed going to the casino. Survivors include her husband, Fred M. Wessels, one son Ron of Earlham, IA, one daughter, Susanne (Roger) Manternach of Brownsburg, IN, 9 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren; her sister, Gladys Knipper of Dyersville, sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Dorothy Maiers and Germaine Schuster, both of Dyersville, Phyllis (Doc)Clemens of Bettendorf, IA, and Mary Lou (Vernon) White of Kearney, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sons: Richard in 1992, Randy in 2009, Rodney and Russell in infancy, a brother, Merlin Maiers, sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Virgil Knipper Elieen (Clarence) Engelken, Arnold Schuster and Ruth (Wayne) Osenberg
