Howard J. Werner, 94, of Worthington, Iowa died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at home.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friends may continue to call from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Thursday prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Worthington with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Howard was born March 29, 1920 in North Fork Township near Hopkinton, Iowa the son of George and Elizabeth (Sternhagen) Werner. He attended rural schools in Lebo and St. Paul Catholic School. Howard married RoseAnn Luensmann on May 31, 1956, in Delhi, Iowa. Together they farmed until their retirement in 1987. Howard was a member of St. Paul Parish in Worthington.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, RoseAnn, 6 children: Joyce Gaul of Dyersville, Carol (John) Watts of Madelia, MN, Allen (Nancy) Werner and Chris (Arlene) Werner, both of Hopkinton, Nancy Werner of Worthington and Ronald (Sheila) Werner of Hopkinton,
17 grandchildren: Jayme Gaul, Chad Gaul, April Young, Mindy Kamp, Gina Dunne, Cory Watts, Andrew Werner, Amanda Werner, Johnathon, Dylan, Zachary, Austin, Devin, Max, Alex, Camrun and Logan Werner; 8 great grandchildren: Hunter Kamp, Kaleb Young, Jade Young, Ariana and Abigail Gaul, Joseph Kamp, Aiden, Addison Werner; step great grandchildren: Dani & Jaci Poswiatowsky and Jack Knepper, and special family friend, Jeff Derga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings: John (Clara), Ray (Ann), Norbert (Anna), George (Millie) Werner, Florence (Joe) Drees, Christine (Henry) Jaeger and Helen (Linus) Luensmann, in-laws: John (Esther) Luensmann, Alfred (Mary) Luensmann, Elmer (Mary Ann) Luensmann, Robert (Elizabeth) & Billy Luensmann (in infancy) Marie (Francis) Ernzen and Frances Luensmann.
