MONTICELLO, IOWA
Donald "Gib" G. Nehl, 87, of Monticello died Monday, March 9, 2015, surrounded by his family in the Hospice Unit at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa where a vigil service will be held at 3:00 p.m.
Friends may continue to gather after 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Baldwin
Gib was born on July 28, 1927, in Alta Vista, Iowa, the son of Charles and Rose (Gilbert) Nehl. He married Wanita G. Dirks on April 21, 1952, in Sand Springs, Iowa. He had a creamery route near Sand Springs for several years, and then worked for Gearhart Construction until he began driving for Cuckler Buildings. Then, to be closer to home, he worked for Rockwell Collins for 25 years until retiring and becoming self-employed.
Survivors include his 6 children: James (Joyce) of St. Joseph, MO, Pat (Earl) Bernardi of Hopkinton, Monica (Ron) Fagan of Onslow, Jerry (Cathy) of Marysville, MI, Connie (Terry) Coder of Anamosa and Jason (Deidre) of Raytown, MO; 18 Grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; a brother, Joe (Connie) Nehl of Dubuque; in-laws: Dorothy (Tom) Kirby of Monticello, Helen Dirks of Monticello and Harold Peters of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanita in 2013, his parents, siblings: Gerry (Paul) Williams, Rita (Willis) Doden, Isabel (Joe) Lahr, Gene (Julie) Nehl, John (Janette) Nehl, Vernon Nehl, Joan (Jack) Bockenstedt and Wallace (Rose) Nehl; in-laws: Eugene Dirks, LaVonne Peters, Anna (Lawrence) Kray and Helen (Robert) Drumbarger.
