Edward L. Leuchs, 87, of Dyersville, Iowa died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. and an American Legion Post 137 service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may continue to call from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 9, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post # 137. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Ed was born February 12, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Herman J. and Olivia (Kirpes) Leuchs. He received his education in the rural Asbury schools and St. Joseph's School, Farley, IA. He went to barber school in Cedar Rapids prior to his 18 months in the United States Army where he was a diesel mechanic in the Korean War receiving two Bronze Stars and two Overseas Bars. Upon his return from service he married Eleanor Langkamp on February 7, 1953 in Platteville, Wisconsin, and made their home in Dyersville. Ed owned and operated Ed's Barber Shop for 20 plus years. He was then employed by Dubuque County Highway Department until 1990. In retirement he enjoyed socializing with his barber customers in his basement, taking road trips, most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post # 137, Dyersville City Council, and AA where he enjoyed helping others.
Survivors include six sons: Ron (Marcia) of Worthington, Rick (Mary) of Dyersville, Mike (Sue) of New Vienna, Mark (Patty) of Dyersville, Dan (Kelli) of Epworth, Don (Joan) of Dyersville, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, siblings: Delores "Babe" Leuchs of Farley, in-laws: Isabel Manuel, Delores Langkamp both of Platteville, WI and Vera Leuchs of Key West.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ellie in 2009, siblings: Joe Leuchs, Clarence Leuchs, Bernard Leuchs, Rita Oberbroeckling, in-laws: Guerden Langkamp, Marian Whitaker, Bea Sherman, Donald Manuel and Dale Whitaker, Kermit Sherman
