WORTHINGTON, IOWA
Darlene M. Smock, 73, of Worthington, died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at her residence.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish vigil will be held at 2:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate and Rev. Douglas Loecke will concelebrate.
Darlene was born July 11, 1941, in Placid, IA the daughter of Raymond and Marcella (Drees) Burger. She graduated from St. Paul High School with the Class of 1959. She married Merrill "Bud" Smock on Dec. 5, 1959, at Manchester, Iowa. Darlene spent her life supporting her husband's military career and raising their family. When Bud retired, they settled in Worthington.
Darlene was the best wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family more than anything. She believed in the good in people, loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed sharing this gift with everyone.
Darlene will be greatly missed by her husband and best friend, Merrill "Bud", children,: Gary (Judy) Smock of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Dave) Walters of Eau Claire, WI, Teri Smock, Mary Smock and Larry (Mary Jo), all of Worthington, Geri (Jamie) Konrardy of Dyersville; grandchildren: Cari (Erik) Graham, Christopher (special friend Katie Kramer) Smock, Mackenzie Walters, Josh (Andi) Smock, Jessica Smock, and Ben, Alec and Elyse Konrardy; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings: Carl "Cub" Burger, Kaye (Eldon) Trumm, Dave "Crockett" (Linda) Burger, and Wilma Wolfe, all of Worthington, IA; a sister-in-law, Marian Burger of New Vienna, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Richard, her parents-in-law, Glennie and Alberta Smock; a brother, John Burger; 2 sisters-in-law: Doryce Reid and Delores (George) Trogden.
Thanks to Fr. Quint, Fr. Dole and Fr. Loecke for their wonderful spiritual support, and special thanks to Dr. Kukla and staff, and the staff at Mercy Home Care.
